Cavedale Vineyards Owner: Elliott Mackey This historic property consists of the original "dale" with surrounding caves, first dug by indigenous people to release the abundant spring waters to attract wildlife. Developed as the Cavedale Resort iin the 1880s, wine grapes were planted along with other fruits and vegetables to serve the resort guests who came for the healing properties of the mineral springs. Situated just above the fog level, Cavedale is bathed in ultraviolet rays more hours per day than the valley, yet cooled by summer fogs just touching the vineyard. This unique microclimate combined with well-drained volcanic soils yields ripe terroir-driven wines, similar to other mountain wines in Napa and Sonoma, but with their own distinctive fruit and character.
